Impregnated Activated Carbons

Impregnated activated carbons have chemicals applied during the manufacturing process which adhere to the surface of the product. These chemicals further improve the filtering performance of the carbon. Learn more about the uses of activated carbon in our applications section

Air Filtration & Odour Removal

The Eurocarb C activated carbons are a specialist range used in the control and adsorption of acid gases. This material is exclusively used in air treatment, commonly used for the removal of strong odours in a variety of field applications. Applications include fume cupboards filters and sewage air treatment.

C range carbons work best in the presence of oxygen and standard humidity. Where there is no oxygen present, please consider our KI range of carbons.

Product Details

In addition to the standard C impregnated grades below, we can customise impregnation levels in order to optimise the product for customer requirements.

  • C – NaOH impregnation (3%)
  • C2 – KOH impregnation (10%)
  • C3 – KOH impregnation (3%)
  • C4 – KOH impregnation (4%)
  • C7 – KOH impregnation (7%)

Ether Removal

Ethers, especially short chain molecules such as dimethyl ether, are difficult to remove by standard activated carbon due to its polarity and low boiling point. Eurocarb have developed the E range, these are specialist impregnated products with enhanced performance for ether removal.

Formaldehyde Removal

For organics with high polarity and low boiling point such as formaldehyde we have developed the F range as specialist market leading products for use in the control and removal of formaldehyde and other aldehydes.

The F range of Eurocarb carbons is a specialist market leading product for use in the control and removal of Formaldehyde and other aldehydes.

Originally developed for use in hospitals, the product has excellent capacity and finds application in fume cupboards, printer filters and other industrial processes.

Gold Recovery & Mercury Adsorption

Mercury is a toxic heavy metal which is widely dispersed in nature. In our everyday life, we come across mercury being used in the form of items such as electric switches, boilers, amalgams, barometer and thermometers, lamps and even cell phones.

Our HG range of activated carbon is impregnated with sulphur to adsorb mercury and convert it into stable mercury sulphide.

A specialist Eurocarb product range for control of mercury vapours. This is a widely used impregnated product across a variety of industries actively involved in the control of mercury and organo-mercury constituents.

Silver Impregnated

Silver has been used for millennia in drinking and storage vessels to keep the water “sweet”. Pliny the Elder wrote about the ability of silver slags to close up and heal wounds in his “Natural History” in 79 AD. The remarkable antibiotic properties of silver extend to 100s of different micro-organisms, including bacteria, virus, yeasts, fungi and moulds.

When added in the correct manner to activated carbon, silver acts to prevent the possible build-up of micro-organisms as a water filter is used or stored. It does this without significantly affecting the purification properties of the carbon. In Eurocarb’s Ag range, we impregnate high quality coconut shell carbons from the Haycarb factories with silver compound in varying amounts to achieve the ideal level of microbial control.

Our carbons are used to filter chlorine from drinking water, as well as residual organic compounds that cause taste or potential health issues.

We are able to supply high quality impregnated material (with silver content ranging from 0.01 to 0.4%) across Europe to a variety of users. Our high capacity production capability has considerable flexibility with respect to batch sizes, and is designed to deliver high consistency, low dust product for rapid delivery.

All batches are fully tested in our own lab to ensure conformity.

We can advise on the best carbon for your filter, including mesh size, activity level and silver content.

Eurocarb Water Purification Carbons meet appropriate international requirements such as EN12915, AWWA B604-96 and on request, NSF 61 and Prop65 where required.

Silver impregnated grades are EPA registered.

TEDA Range

Eurocarb uses TEDA (Triethylenediamine) impregnation on both coal and coconut-based carbons for a number of applications in the Nuclear industry where removal of radioactive iodide from air is required. In addition it is used with other impregnants for CBRN carbons in order to enhance adsorption and provide ageing stability.

Our products, tailored to your requirement, for nuclear applications ensure performance and safety including for radioactive iodine and methyl iodine removal as well as usage in nuclear delay beds.

Furthermore, contaminants such as Radioactive Iodine 131 and its isotopes are effectively removed by our premium coconut shell based activated carbon for air and water treatment.

Hydrogen sulphide, sulphur and other acid gases

KIC range

For a use in fume cupboard filters standard carbons are available for organic vapours and impregnated grades are specified for removal of ammonia, acid gases, ethers, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide and other contaminants.

Eurocarb offers the KIC multi-impregnated range for advanced performance against acidic gases & fumes. This product does not require the presence of oxygen and offers improved performance against other products available in the market.

KI range

Due to the fact that, sulphur-bearing compounds can be highly corrosive gas or even lead to equipment corrosion, it makes them very detrimental to industrial process equipment and the environment in general.

They are generally a by-product of separation and thermal processing of fuels such as coal, crude oil and natural gas which all contain sulphur.

During the desulphurization process, it is crucial to focus primarily on H2S (hydrogen sulphide) a foul smelling, corrosive gas and SO2 (sulphur dioxide) a toxic gas which is responsible for acid rain formation and equipment corrosion.

A common desulphurization process involves the thermal oxidation of hydrogen sulphide and its reaction with sulphur dioxide to form sulphur and water vapor.

As such, Eurocarb’s KI range of UK manufactured impregnated activated carbons offers superb performance in the control of acid gases including H₂S, SO2 and acid fumes.

This product also offers improved performance against radioactive gases and radioactive methyl iodide.

KP range

The flexible KP range of Eurocarb products is designed for the removal of H₂S from oxygen lacking gas flows along with any other compounds that are easily oxidised. This is a very effective impregnated product with a wide range of uses against a number of challenge agents.

Impregnated with potassium permanganate for special applications such as removal of H₂S from low oxygen or oxygen free gas streams. This range of product is especially effective in anaerobic environments such as the treatment of biogas through anaerobic digestion process for emissions control.
